Does a stress fracture count as a fracture?

Yes. While stress fractures are different than traumatic fractures, we record all fractures. Stress fractures are very small cracks that tend to occur in bones due to overuse. Rather than using stabilizing techniques like splinting or casting (used to treat traumatic fractures), stress fractures tend to respond best to rest, cold compresses, and mild pain relievers.
